“It’s great to be able to talk to him about what’s going on, because so much of it is weird and trippy.”
- Matt Damon talking to the Boston Globe about his friendship with movie actor Ben Affleck.
[Meaning]
bizarre, very strange, out of the ordinary
(Trippy was originally related to drug use. When a person was on drugs, they were “on a trip” and experiencing strange things as a result.)
[Use]
Trippy is a great word to use if you want to sound like an authentic English speaker. If you experience something that makes you feel strange, it was a trippy experience. If you see something that looks very weird, it looks trippy. There are a variety of ways to use this adjective.
[Examples]
"That is a trippy painting. The colors look weird together. I don't think I like it."
"When I was traveling in Japan, I saw my friend Jane. It was really trippy. I can't believe I saw her there."
"That was a trippy movie. Did you like it? I think it was good. It really made me think about life and death."
Y'know what, this is funny. No matter how many times you've told other people to 'move on' in their lives, it's still kinda hard to do it yourself when the time comes for you. Easy to say, huh. Just gotta remember, when it's over, it's over.
